Paradigm Shift. 4zzz FM 102.1 Broadcast 29th September 2017

Andy interviews two people (Anne and Ona) from Catalunya about the independence referendum. Also Andy talks about Iraqi Kurdistan and other independence struggles.

“When I see an actual flesh-and-blood worker in conflict with his natural enemy, the policeman, I do not have to ask myself which side I am on.” ― George Orwell, Homage to Catalonia.

As images are pouring in from across Barcelona of violence and thuggery by the National Police and now the Guardia Civil, beating an old woman, dragging people from polling stations, seizing ballot boxes and opening fire with rubber bullets on peaceful protesters, we can see why the Spanish state wants to crack down on independence in Catalunya. [Notes by Ian Curr].
